A note from Mia
Of all the abuse I've experienced and worked through, spiritual abuse has been by far the most damaging. Because the spirit world is beautiful. For me it's the most beautiful thing there is, and nobody should use that to manipulate other people.
I've come a long way since then. I'm proud of who I've become, and I don't want anyone else to experience what I went through. I can't even read my own book again.

What this book is
A true story.
In essence, this is my true story, just as I experienced it.
Not a book against the spirit world.
It was M who was the lie, not the spirit world.
How it happens, and how to keep your own power.
Always listen to yourself and your gut feelings.
Before you begin
This is Mia's true story, as she experienced it. It describes spiritual, emotional, financial and sexual abuse, coercive control, violence, the loss of a pregnancy, and suicidal thoughts. The Prologue and Chapter 12 describe a suicide attempt. If you would rather not read the Prologue, you can begin at Part One, Chapter 1. Parts Two and Three describe sexual assaults on women and on children, partly in extracts from the court judgments.
Please look after yourself while you read or listen. Take breaks, and put the book down whenever you need to.

About this edition
Mia Ottosson wrote this book in Swedish. It was first published in Swedish in 2009, as Sexhealern.
The English translation was made using generative AI in 2025. For this 2026 edition, the English was checked paragraph by paragraph against Mia's Swedish original, and every place where the translation had drifted from what she wrote was corrected. Apart from those corrections, the story is as Mia wrote it in 2009.
The opening note and the afterword from Mia are new for this edition.
